North Brisbane Dental Implants
Dental implants provide another option to replace missing teeth. This is achieved by placing a fixture into the bone. After the healing process is complete, an artificial tooth (dental crown) can then be structural secured to the healed fixture. The ultimate goal is to provide a restorative tooth replacement option which is as close to a natural tooth as possible.
Dental Implants can also be used in other circumstances. In some instances, when a denture does not have enough retention dental implants can be placed underneath the denture to help secure it in place. Further, in orthodontics mini-implants can be placed to help provide points of anchorage to move the teeth into the desired position.
What is A Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a titanium fixture that is placed into the bone; over time your bone will integrate with the implant becoming stable and secure. After everything has healed, it is then possible to restore the implant with a crown, bridge or denture.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
Generally placement is done in two stages.
The first stage is the placement of the implant itself (the titanium fixture). This is generally a minor surgical procedure done under local anesthetic. In most cases very little to no discomfort is noticed. After the implant is placed, the bone then begins to heal around the implant and become strong and stable.
The second stage is about restoring the top half of the implant to have a functional tooth again. At this time the Skygate dentist takes an impression of the healed implant and sends this information to the laboratory. The dental lab then constructs a custom made crown to be placed directly onto the implant.
